Nereus Duo: Classical Flute and Violin
Biographies (Fr)

Founded in 2008 on the West coast of France, the Nereus Duo has pleased in just 3 years more than 9.000 listeners over 50 concerts. Trained at two prestigious musical institutions - the Royal Conservatoire  in Brussels for the flautist Charlotte Berthomé and the Royal Academy of Music in London for her sister the violinist  Annabelle Berthomé - this feminine flute and violin duet quickly received « a very striking success » on the Atlantic shores (Ouest-France, 1st French daily newspaper) and in the Alps region for its « magic » (the Dauphiné newspaper). It was namely spotted by ELLE Magazine and qualified as « divine » in 2009.

However, the specificity of these two young Nereids does not lie in their  atypical group ensemble neither in the concert halls they have already performed in: the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Beaux-Arts Palace in Brussels, the Bélem Cultural Centre in Lisbon, the  Champs Elysées Theater and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Possessed by the same conviction that classical music is tremendously modern, these indefatigable musicians integrally write their music compositions prior to their performances so to share the classical repertoire through an fresh new lens. In 2008, their annual tour was dedicated to operas by Mozart (The magic flute) and Bizet (Carmen) as well as to Tchaikovsky (The nutcracker ballet). The success was such that the duet proposed the following year, in 2009, the complete Four seasons by Vivaldi and the
song cycle The winter journey by Schubert. Finally, last summer, in 2010, the Nereus Duo paid tribute to romanticism and revisited, with success, piano works by Schumann (Children scenes) and violin works by Mendelssohn (Concerto in E minor). In a class of its own, the Nereus Duo represents therefore a musical innovation to discover.
